Bringing a touch of old-school Hollywood hilarity to the North Shore, composer Tom Nazziola leads the Chicago Philharmonic ensemble in a trio of fresh new scores played live to three classic silent films.
Laugh at the zany antics of Academy Award-winner Buster Keaton, bumbling his way through the investigation as he aspires to be everyone’s favorite detective in Sherlock Jr. Can our hero solve the case, defeat the villain and win the girl? One of TIME magazine’s top 100 all-time great movies, this slapstick comedy of errors with sweep you away with Keaton’s gorgeous cinematography and a fun and colorful palette of music.
In Sure-Locked Homes, the ever-youthful Felix proves to be a scaredy-cat when he finds himself outside after dark. Jumping at shadows and letting his imagination run away from him, the cheeky feline, one of film history’s most recognizable cartoon characters, is accompanied by Nazziola’s energetic score. And finally, Fadeaway’s Koko the Clown yearns to escape the confines of his animated world. Alongside his faithful dog Fritz, he battles against his creator and causes hilarious mayhem as animation and live action film come together in an amazing cinematic achievement.
“Nazziola is doing astonishing compositional work with silent films, from the drama of The Golem to the comedies of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. His talent is rare. His contribution indispensable.”
– Peter Travers, Rolling Stone magazine
