Influenced by the great past players like Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw, local clarinet virtuoso Michael Lerich brings his swinging jazz ensemble for a night of exceptional music.
In popular music, the clarinet has long been associated with Goodman, Shaw and the Swing jazz era. Unfortunately, the clarinet lost popularity with the music and musicians in the following Bebop generation due to the inherent difficulty of the instrument and the required mastery to perform more current mainstream jazz.
Michael Lerich has devoted the last several years towards achieving his goal of bringing the clarinet back to the forefront of jazz music. Michael and his ensemble revitalize the sound from Bebop, the Cool jazz school and mainstream contemporary jazz, while also presenting a variety of jazz standards and a mix of Latin tunes.
