At the North Shore Center, we believe no other art form captures the exciting physicality and raw human expression that dance can. In addition to the return of Ensemble Español’s Spanish Dance Festival, we have arranged uniquely collaborative double-bill dance performances with some of Chicago’s premier dance companies. These productions are supported in part by Audience Architects' New Stages for Dance program. Leadership support for the New Stages for Dance Initiative is provided by MetLife Foundation and Dance/USA. The aim of the grant is to encourage Chicago dance company collaboration on shared-bill programs and provide underwriting for companies to access new stages at quality performing arts venues. The North Shore Center is honored to have three of the eight total productions that were awarded grants on our perfect dance stage!

While Natya Dance Theatre and Mordine & Co. Dance Theater maintain an independent season of performances, they continue to build on successful past collaborations between artistic directors/choreographers, Hema Rajagopalan and Shirley Mordine. Journey with these two critically acclaimed Chicago dance companies as they bring together East and West to challenge preconceptions about culture, difference, and the experience of being human in these times. This partnership began in 2007 with the creation of Two Rivers, an innovative work exploring the interface between East and West, classical Indian and Western contemporary dance. This success was followed by the creation of Sahridaya in 2008 and an evening-length collaborative performance, Encountering the Other in July /August 2010 at the DCA Storefront Theater in downtown Chicago which presented a trilogy of collaborative works, including Elements (2010). The performance received Critic’s Pick in Time Out Chicago, Critic’s Choice in The Reader and New City.
