Aerial Dance Chicago & Elements Contemporary Ballet
Aerial Dance Chicago and Elements Contemporary Ballet present
Silk and Steel
Featuring the world premiere of Surge, a unique collaboration by the artists of Elements and ADC
Aerial Dance Chicago and Elements Contemporary Ballet share the stage in Silk and Steel, a concert that takes the unique aesthetic of contemporary ballet into the vertical realm. Featuring Surge, a world premiere collaboration between Elements and ADC, Silk and Steel maximizes the artistic resources of the two companies with multiple hanging silks, aerial dancers in rope-and-harness, and earth-bound ballerinas performing highly stylized neo-balletic choreography beneath awe-inspiring aerial dance.
The concert will also feature two past works by ADC: Symbiotic (2009), critically acclaimed for its stunning optical illusions; and the emotionally-charged unEarthed (2011), in which an oceanic, custom designed aerial hammock set creates a backdrop for revealing human attitudes about their relationship with the natural environment. Additional repertory presented by Elements will be a re-mounting of Artistic Director Mike Gosney’s hypnotic 2010 ballet, Curiosity, plus a revival of Resident Choreographer Joseph Caruana’s award-winning pas de deux from 2009, Angel.
This event is made possible in part with funding through a grant from The MetLife New Stages for Dance II Initiative.
